Just when you thought it was safe…. Julian killed his nemesis and lover, Sebastian, when he went out of control in his quest to make vampires the dominant species. In his dreams Julian receives a warning from his long dead love and mother of his son that Sebastian is trying to make a comeback via a blood rite. Sebastian’s daughter, Addison, is approaching her twenty-fifth birthday when she will ascend and come into her full powers. Sebastian’s followers are determined to kidnap Addison and drain her blood to bring their leader back to life. Julian is not going to let that happen.
Vowing to protect her at all costs, his best friend Andre joins him. But there is a problem. Julian long thought his emotions died with his first love. But Addison is awakening feelings and emotions he doesn’t know how to deal with. And add in jealousy, because Andre is drawn to Addison as well. Unwilling to lose a life-long friendship, Julian and Andre agree to make a three-way relationship work. But Addison struggles with the theory, let alone the application of loving two men.
Hurt in the past when his true love spurned his vampire ways, Julian takes his anger out on all witches. He doesn’t trust them, but Addison is a witch and that adds another dimension to the already flammable situation.
While reading this I kept getting flashbacks to another book I had read. I dug through my library and sure enough, this is a continuation of sorts of another story by Trista Ann Michaels, Spark of Magic. It isn’t billed as a sequel, but if you are interested in the story of Sebastian’s demise, that’s where you’ll find it.
In her usual style, the author writes a compelling story. While ménage is not the norm in today’s society it always seems so natural when she writes about three people developing a loving relationship. The tension and danger were palpable and the romance smoking hot. Adding in that Julian and Andre love one another, but are not lovers, also adds an intriguing twist. They are physically demonstrative, which is kind of hot, but both are totally focused on Addison. A steamy read not to be missed.
Chris.
