Inside the housing crisis

We’ve seen it in the news for months now, the rising foreclosures, the renters caught in the middle and kicked out of homes they thought were theirs for the duration of the lease.

Well, it appears I’ve found myself in that situation.

Five months ago, my husband and I moved to Mississippi just south of Memphis so my husband could be closer to the Memphis airport. Commuting in and out of Memphis was becoming a huge strain. So we put out country ranch on five acres on the market and moved into a rental.

I was a little concerned about renting since I’d seen numerous times in the news all the horror stories. Never imagined I would find myself in the middle of one, but I have.

My landlord lost the house to the bank.

I was livid…still am. We told him we would probably be long term renters. We knew it would take our house a long time to sell. It’s too far out in the country. He said no worries. Things were fine and he was looking forward to having long term renters for a change.

Five months later, here we are, no landlord, no idea who owns the house or which bank to call, no idea how much time we have. Moving back to the country is an option of last resort. The commute for my husband is just too hard plus there’s the kids to consider. They just setttled into the new school. If I have to change them again, even back to Monterey, it would screw up my son’s high school credits. He’s currently taking classes here that Monterey doesn’t offer.

What a freakin’ mess.

Hopefully after a few calls on Monday we’ll have a few more answers. Hopefully…sigh.
